The rear backrest removal procedure for a 1996 to 2000 Honda Civic with EG chassis is a crucial operation. It requires removing certain clips and brackets. First, pop the trunk to access the trunk space underneath the trunk floor mat. Reach behind it to access the rear seat bracket and clip located underneath it on both sides. Remove one screw at a time using your fingers from each bolt in front of the seats on the rear edge where the seats are positioned. The bolts come with screws, one up and one down from under it at 2 inches from the bolt that attaches to the bench at the back. After loosening the first bolt on each side remove a second bolt below each seat, and now use pliers and loosen them as they are a little stubborn when pulled in by hand using pliers. They will now easily release once one or both of them have been moved down to allow the release clip holding up both of the clips attached under it underneath the trunk's back seat to release their positions on both sides from this part, where both were already accessible.
