Watch this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/pdFCBuTAVp4. These blinking goggles use a remix of my Print-In-Place Iris Box (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1817180), which is a remix of Emmett's Preassembled Iris Box (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1811143). Right and left "eyeballs" snap into the goggles, with a 3D printed spring holding them open. A discrete piece of fishing line acts as the blink trigger. Alternatively, you can skip the spring and fishing line and manually operate each iris by reaching up. Optional lenses enhance the look. Print settings include: Printer Brand: MakerGear Printer: M2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 20% Print one regular eyeball and one mirrored eyeball for the right and left sides, along with the spring and goggles themselves. Print the goggles part more slowly and at a higher temperature to ensure that the little fingers grabbing the eyeballs have fully fused layers. Post-printing requirements include 12" of 3/8" wide elastic and 36" (1m) of fishing line. After printing the eyeballs, cut away small tabs holding the bottom of each iris leaf in place. Insert a screwdriver between the outer sphere and studded ring to break it free from the base. Rotate the outer sphere relative to the base ring to open and close the iris. Run the eyeballs open and closed until they operate freely, then add a drop of light oil for smooth operation. The right and left irises move in different directions when mounted in the goggles with the irises open and actuator tabs at the top. Next, insert the spring into the tabs as shown in the photos. If the irises want to close, swap the eyeballs. Tie one end of your fishing line through the hole in the right side of the spring, thread it down through the eyelet in the right side of the goggles and back up through the eyelet in the left side of the goggles. Finally, tie off the fishing line to the left side of the spring and thread elastic through the slots in the side of the goggles. Put on the goggles, looping your thumb through the big loop of fishing line and pulling downward to blink. Both sides must be pulled at the same time or else the spring will jam. Optional lenses: Cut out two 1.75" diameter discs from tinted acrylic sheet (3mm thick or thinner). Cut flats on each side so that the distance across the flats is 1.525". Slide each disc into the front opening, center and press up against the iris-side of the inner sphere and carefully super glue into place.
