Blake's 7 - Liberator
thingiverse
I originally printed the model earlier this year, but now I'm excited to share an updated version with more detail. As I've learned more about 3D printing and design software, I wanted to add finer details to this model. Using stills from a recent eBay auction for an original Liberator from the BBC has helped me verify some of the design's finer points. I'd like to acknowledge zeframs' work on the original model, which made this update possible. This list includes all parts needed to build a Liberator; if it doesn't say "new," it comes directly from zeframs' model. Many thanks again for your design. I hope you have fun printing this model! The engine lines are created using white filament, which fits perfectly into the holes and grooves of the new model. It's a bit fiddly, but it definitely adds to the model's overall appearance. To print the nacelles, I used 10% infill; otherwise, they can get quite heavy and won't hang properly from the fuselage. Following a request to add engine lighting, I refined the design slightly by adding a new rear section and hollow engine globes. I used 12v LED lighting and a 12v type N battery holder along with a small flashing circuit based on a 555 chip. This setup works well, but it requires swapping out the rear section for an option to have the engine light up. To activate my model's engine lighting, I simply pull off the engine globe piece from the rear, switch it on, and return it to its original position. I've included pictures of the 12v LED strip and how I wired it up; feel free to ask any questions you may have. Another requested mod has been implemented, and two new files are now available: these are for the nacelle fronts and front fuselage section with 1.5mm holes for metal rods instead of printed tips. This modification brings the model closer to its original Liberator design. To print this model, you'll need: * 1 each of all the Fuselage sections - choose the Mk2 rear section if you want the engine to light up, as there's room for a battery and electronics * 2 engine globes - choose the hollow ones if you want the engine lighting option; remember to insert the wire halfway through printing the holes * 3 each of all the Nacelle sections * 3 struts * 19 pins * 1 stand * White filament for the engine
