Blake Hill 1 (July 2007)
sketchfab
Prehistoric carved boulder on secluded farmland atop Blake Hill, Hunderthwaite Moor, County Durham. This is one of five carvings clustered together on Blake Hill. Referenced on page 78 of Stan Beckensall and Tim Laurie's 1998 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art in County Durham, Swaledale, and Wensleydale,' this stone was documented as "Blake Hill 1" by NADRAP on ERA. The team describes it: The stone displays signs of weathering on both its north- and south-facing sloping surfaces, with possible carvings located on the northern side. Several channels run down the stone from top to bottom, starting with irregular cup-like depressions near the summit. Historic England scheduling is available at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1016613. ERA record can be accessed at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=1736. The 3D model was created from two stereo pairs captured by Jeff Lynn (NADRAP Team 5) in July 2007, part of the NADRAP / ERA archive deposited with Historic England.
