Continuing from previous Warcraft items and with Legion expansion looming, I started working on upcoming artifact weapons, beginning with Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire and its off-hand complement Secrets of the Void. This was my first attempt at a prop weapon in real size, so it had to be scaled down or cut into multiple pieces to fit standard print bed dimensions. In-game lighting would be purple, but since purple LED's are dim, I compromised with blue. Batteries (2xAA) fit inside the handle, which can be twisted and removed for battery changes. There is also a slot for a power switch on the upper part of the handle. Channels run through the blade to invisibly connect batteries and switch to LED's. The blade has three spots for 5mm LED's, and the handle features empty space in the "eye" for additional LED's, secured with hotglue. The book cover for Secrets of the Void can fit an A6-sized notebook when trimmed to follow its curved shape. It also features a single hole for a 5mm LED, though I decided not to use it myself but left it in the design. If you don't insert a real notebook, there's space between the cover for batteries, but I didn't include battery compartments since I abandoned the LED idea. Painted with Citadel miniature paints and detailed with faux leather, all files have been checked with Netfabb, rotated, pre-split, and are ready for printing. If you have a 20cmx20cm print bed, however, you may want to cut the upper blade once more to ensure a proper fit.
