Picked up a pair of old "Rollerblade" in-line skates at a garage sale for $2. I designed this filament spool holder from the axles, wheels, and bearings that I removed from them. The SCAD file is available just in case you got a different pair of skates. This project costs only $1 for hardware because it uses parts from only one skate shoe. I've also saved enough spare axles and bearings to make another set. To follow these instructions, buy a pair of in-line skates at a garage sale - the cheaper they are, the better. Remove four axles from one skate shoe and eight bearings from the wheels attached to them. Then print out 4 plates as shown in the STL file. Next, use two of these plates along with two axles and four bearings to build your filament spool holder. Save the second skate for building another set - you'll need it to create another set of holders when needed. This project was designed using 608ZZ bearings and Rollerblade 8mm axles that are approximately 36mm long. If you can't find a similar pair of old in-line skates, consider buying more hardware or adjusting the SCAD file provided - Good luck with your project!
