I wanted something to keep dust and small particles out of the ports for safety reasons when carrying it in a backpack or similar container, without exposing myself to shorts. A two-piece design allows you to secure the top section with a string or cord, preventing it from getting lost. This doesn't make it waterproof but does enhance water resistance slightly. To seal the second lower section to the battery at a low point, I used a small amount of silicone glue. The result is a snug fit for the top part. The belt clip was an added feature I decided to include. It may require reinforcement in the clip area to ensure its stability.
