Black soldier fly larvae self harvester
thingiverse
It's my intention to cultivate Black soldier fly larvae for my chicks, which can also be fed to reptiles and other pets. This setup should function as an accelerated composter. I've just begun building my bin, and I'll report back with the results. Feel free to remix or suggest improvements - I'm currently focused on other projects, but I'd support a V2. The stack can be adjusted, but this is what I think works best. BSF (Black Soldier Fly) Final stack (top-bottom): BSFT (Top) BSFC (Center) BSFS (Spacer) BSFB (Bottom) Some inspiration for this part came from the YT: BlackSoldierFly video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kjNvE5IOdw. The top and bottom parts of the stack will require supports, which should be built into the build plate only. I used the hook side of velcro and those parts on top are meant to support material for egg laying (hence cardboard). I also used aquarium stone in the bottom, followed by landscape cloth, followed by another layer of stone, all to assist drainage of liquids. The plan is to turn the sight level to drain. The bottom penetration for the tube was a quick fix using an old hydroponic sight level. I believe this can be easily improved. You can find the hydroponic level at https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-706335-Farm-Brown/dp/B0002JAY6E/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=hydroponic+level&qid=1587568059&sr=8-8. I sourced BSFL from https://flukerfarms.com/black-soldier-fly-larvae-soldier-worms/. The lid and PVC T-Fitting were used, but I'll update later - you can probably figure it out in the meantime.
