Black Burnished Ware

Black-burnished ware is a distinctive type of pottery created by skilled Roman craftsmen in Britain. Two distinct variants emerged: BB1 and BB2. While BB1 boasts a coarse texture, it's thrown entirely by hand. In contrast, the finer-textured BB2 is produced using a wheel. BB2 was primarily manufactured near the Thames Estuary, whereas BB1 originated in Dorset. This exceptional model showcases a jar crafted in the refined style of BB2.
