When my seven-year-old son misplaces a chess piece, we team up to create a new one. I guide him through the process of making a three-dimensional model and printing it out. To be honest, I do most of the work while he handles the keyboard, but that's still a lot of fun for both of us. I wouldn't recommend this project unless you're already familiar with it, as my son got frustrated waiting for me to figure things out. Nonetheless, we have a great time together and learn some valuable skills in the process. Here is the result – not too fancy, but it gets the job done. There's a minor overhang issue that I left unaddressed, but you can find the raw files attached if you'd like to take care of it yourself.
