Birth of Aphrodite

This artwork embodies an imaginative representation of one of the most famous Greek legends about Aphrodite's origin. Born from the foamy waters created when the genitals of Uranus were cast into the sea by his son Cronus, Aphrodite is a goddess revered for her association with erotic love and physical attractiveness in ancient Greek culture. The Romans identified her as their Venus counterpart. Hesiod writes about her birth in "Theogony", explaining that she emerged from the foam generated by Uranus's severed organs. In various cities such as Sparta, Thebes, Cyprus, and others, Aphrodite was venerated as a sea goddess and protector of sailors; at times she was also worshipped for her role in war. However, her main significance lay in being a symbol of love and fertility, and occasionally she presided over marriages.
