Birdhouse Solar Weather Station
thingiverse
Step files for the birdhouse. Included is a single print of the back, walls, and bottom, or a piecewise version depending on your desired objectives. It is noted that the print should be done in PETG or ABS as direct sunlight will melt PLA. The electronic shelf is covered by the hinged roof, where the solar panels are mounted. I will be putting a camera facing into the nesting box and another facing out one side. This doubles as a security camera and a timelapse of the birds. The door reducer is attached with two 1-inch wood screws, and can select the type of bird you would like to use in your house. Simply adjusting the internal diameter can change the bird species that are able to use your house. Please reference the image courtesy of Nestwatch that depicts bird species and diameters. With a single 18650 cell taking a photo once every 10 minutes, deep sleep can give a 5-year battery life. However, real-world scenarios don't always work this nicely for me, so I included solar cells on the roof door. I will be uploading a version with a vented electronic section so a simple RH sensor can be added to function as a weather station as well. (LLC393, LLC5064, LLC5181, or in my case DHT11) I will also include links to the HomeAssistant MotionEye tutorial for streaming timelapse, ESPcam tutorial, and the ESP weather station tutorial for an educational project. If anyone needs help with this, needs me to print parts, or would like to contribute, please reach out.
