To cater to the picky birds in my backyard, I initially purchased a commercial feeder, as shown on the left in green. However, it needed daily refilling, so I decided to create an enlarged version. This new feeder works wonderfully, with one filling lasting for 10 days. Despite the bird poop on top, it has been a success. To construct this feeder, print two caps and one funnel. Utilize a 1/4" (6mm) hardware cloth to form a tube with a diameter of 3 5/16" (85mm). Attach the caps to each end of the tube and secure the sides – I chose soldering for this step. If desired, add perches by inserting them through the sides and fastening with wheel collars. For a convenient removal feature, attach a hanger made from 3/16" steel rod to the hardware cloth, leaving space for the cap. After assembly, paint the entire feeder with black spray enamel. The funnel and caps are specifically designed for a 3 5/16" (85mm) tube of hardware cloth, with mine measuring 24 inches in height – a common size in the United States.
