Bird Feeder for Balconies
thingiverse
Hello Everyone, This project was designed to achieve two objectives. First, to provide sustenance for native birds. Initially intended to attract sparrows near my balcony, it unexpectedly drew in two doves that now refuse to vacate. Secondly, my cat had been persistently gazing out at the birds on my balcony, prompting me to devise a way to entice more birds, thereby entertaining my feline companion while I'm away. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a compact model compatible with my apartment's layout. The design required it to securely lock onto my railing without much effort, which is why this particular model worked so well – it can expand to accommodate any railing size. To assemble the bird feeder, print two models (one for each side) and one grate. Place one on either side and position the grate on top. Determine the desired distance between them to secure it to your railing. Once you've found the optimal placement, remove the grate and apply a thin layer of super glue around its edges (be cautious not to apply too much, as excess can seep out). Replace the grate, holding it in place until the adhesive dries. This will firmly lock the model onto your railing, yet the grate's flexibility allows for easy removal if needed. The bottom features holes for zipties, but I didn't require them. During a recent series of powerful storms, I opted to secure the entire assembly with a ziptie (as shown in the photo). Thankfully, this has proven effective and has successfully attracted an abundance of birds.
