Bird Booster

Bird Booster

This is the Bird Booster, an original prototype I made for my bird to train her to fly. My invention is a perch attached to a spring mechanism that can be compressed and released by a remote-controlled motor. This motor rotates a barrel underneath the perch, which compresses the perch just enough that when the motor is released, it gently boosts the perch up. This ultimately gets the bird to fly. Over time, the bird won't need this boost because she'll understand the association between command and action. The phrase "Necessity is the mother of all invention" perfectly describes why I made the Bird Booster: it was necessary for my pet's safety. For the last six years, I went to a professional to have my bird's wings "clipped," which is the painless action of cutting the flight feathers off the birds' wings so that she can safely flutter to the ground, but not enough to where she could fly away or get herself hurt. However, because of COVID-19 shutting businesses down, the place I usually went to stopped providing their services. Without anyone to clip the bird's wings, my bird was able to fly away. It was too dangerous to clip her wings myself since birds have very little blood in their bodies; one mistake could be fatal. This predicament left me with only one option: I had to train my bird to fly only on command. So I got to work; I drafted the concept, outlined, designed, and assembled my invention. Ultimately, the Bird Booster proves that I can accomplish anything as long as I have an idea and a will to execute it. I want to be clear; this post isn't one where you just download some files, run them through a slicer program, and then press print on your 3D Printer. When designing the Bird Booster, I used non-3D-printed parts in my design, such as PVC pipe, paracord, a receiver and controller from a remote controlled car, and a piece of wood. I understand that this is a 3D printing site, but I am also using Thingiverse to showcase my inventions. If you have questions, feel free to message me.
