Birch pollen

Pollen from silver birch (Betula pendula, Betulaceae) causes a very common form of tree-pollen hayfever - possibly second only to oaks in terms of prevalence. Technical description of Betula pendula pollen, from PalDat (Halbritter & Diethart, 2016): small isopolar monads are spherical or irregular in shape and circular or irregular in polar view. These grains have three openings on one side with annuli patterns and a smooth, rugged or microscopic-rough exine surface. This model is part of the 3D Pollen Project.
