Birbchen - Children's Jewelry Holder
grabcad
Birbchen - a unique and playful children's jewelry holder. Birb is a cute colloquial term for bird; and in German, adding chen to the end of nouns makes the subject tiny and adorable (such as Brötchen, or small bread rolls). When you spin the birb's nest, its wings move up and down as illustrated in the rendered video. This movement brings micro-moments of joy to the kids who store their prized jewels in the birb's nest. The inspiration for this project comes for my love of birds and my little sister, Grace. She is going through a rough time in school currently, so I thought that I would make her an object to remind her she is loved and cared for. I included several different colorways so kids could choose their own favorite. A cute postcard I made inspired the overall aesthetic for this toy, a picture of which is included in the gallery. The nest wheel circles the resting bird and the gear inside the birds is what allows the wings to move up and down. The pieces would be printed in PLA, but if it were to be manufactured ABS plastic would suit it better.Video is titled Birbchen_moving clip.mov, but you can also view it at: https://vimeo.com/319357670University of Cincinnati, DAAP Student
