Biplane Mobile

Biplane Mobile

My girlfriend and I discovered that we are expecting a baby boy this coming January, so I decided to create something special for his new room. The mobile I came up with features two airplanes, two fluffy white clouds, and a wooden frame made from solid oak wood. To suspend the entire assembly from the ceiling in our future nursery, I plan to use a sturdy hook attached to a drywall stud, which we purchased at Home Depot. The biplanes and clouds will be put together using strong nylon kite string, also obtained from Home Depot. The cross beam is made from an 18-inch long oak dowel with a diameter of 0.375 inches that was cut in half, which provides the necessary strength for the assembly. Here's what you'll need to print, along with their required quantities: 2 Bi-Plane Assemblies - Propellers: 1 per plane - Fuselage: 1 per airplane - Assembly Pins: A total of 5 (the STL file has all of them) - Nose Cones: 1 per plane - Tires: 2 per airplane Clouds: 2 Required Cross Braces: 2 Needed End Caps: 4 Required 4 M3x12 Cap Screws 4 M3 Nuts Super Glue Note that the cross beam is self-contained and can easily be connected to either side of the dowel, using an M3 nut and a cap screw. I suggest gluing the end caps to each end of both beams (it's easier this way) before assembling them. You should also knot your string carefully through the end caps onto the objects and securely tighten (you can melt the ends of my nylon strings as well). Please note that this project uses small components from Emmett's cube gears, which work really great! Happy printing. I made this thing on my Kossel Mini 3D printer using White, Red, Blue PLA Filament. This was designed using SpaceClaim CAD Software. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:213946
