Bionic Hawkmoth Wing for MAVs
prusaprinters
A simple test for ultra lightweight and robust bionic wing design for MAVs. It's directly printed onto a plastic sheet for a wing membrane.BackgroundThe process is very similar to this study here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-98242-yVenation PatternHawkmoths are capable of hovering and performing rapid maneuvers, thanks to their robust yet flexible wings. These features enable stable flight and precise control, essential for navigating complex environments. The venation pattern of the hawkmoth's wings plays a crucial role in aerodynamic efficiency, facilitating lift and reducing drag. This design adaptation is particularly beneficial for MAVs, where energy efficiency and maneuverability are paramount.Design NotesI tried to keep the weight relations of the veins roughly in accord to the real thing. I went for a span of 36cm. Weight without membrane is about 3g.Other DesignsCheck out my other bionic designs, you might find a thing you like.- Bionic Bumblebee Wings for high lift applications- Bionic Chiton Scale Armor for highly flexible and leightweight protection
