Bionaire BASF1516 Fan - broken cage mount fix
thingiverse
The threaded component of the plastic motor housing, which serves as a mount for the fan's protective cage and features a large finger nut, became detached from my fan. The threaded section literally tore off, causing the fan cage to oscillate violently on the spinning fan's shaft until it eventually came to a standstill. I took charge of designing a replacement part that would integrate seamlessly with the remaining portion of the plastic motor housing. Using a utility knife, I carefully trimmed away some of the excess plastic from the motor housing to create sufficient clearance for this new component. Key features of my design include: - A raised ring is incorporated to facilitate precise centering of the metal cage around the motor shaft and ensure that the fan's weight is evenly distributed when lifted by the cage's handle. - The design incorporates a 0.8mm printable plastic washer, which can be used in the bottom screw location after the main printed part has been press-fitted over the back of the plastic motor housing (this screw location was found to be 0.8mm deeper than the other three). - My design was created at a scale of 10x; it is recommended that you scale it down to 10% in your slicer (I personally used Cura).
