Binary Inspiral
thingiverse
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory recently picked up on significant gravitational waves generated by the fusion of two massive black holes. These cosmic giants are locked in an orbit around each other, steadily spiraling inward as they surrender energy due to intense gravitational wave emissions until finally merging. When galaxies collide, it is anticipated that their supermassive central black holes will also converge and produce a detectable signal through pulsar observations. A miniature model of the binary black hole system in its final stages of inspiral is depicted, with a spiral representing the gravitational waves at play. This scale model includes a small loop for attachment to a chain.
