To surprise my girlfriend on her birthday, I decided to use my Makerbot to create a custom bike light for her. Employing Sketchup's solid modeling tools, I designed a versatile light that could be easily adapted to most flashlights. The design includes three components: a main light housing, a bike attachment, and connectors. The light housing is sized to fit a small LED flashlight but can be scaled up for other flashlights. The bike attachment should accommodate most handlebars and can also be reshaped or scaled for customization. The connectors attach the main light housing and bike attachment, and each component can be edited individually in Sketchup. Assembly is straightforward - simply place the bike attachment on the handlebar (and secure with a bolt if needed), insert a light into the main housing, and slide the attachments together. The entire design can be printed at once or separately, and even the free version of Sketchup provides sufficient tools for assembly.
