Bike Frame Top Tube Protector

Bike Frame Top Tube Protector

I recently wanted to buy a new top tube protector for my fixed gear bike but they are too expensive for what you get, so instead, I designed my own. This protector goes around the top tube of your bike and protects it from handlebar dings and scratches. This mostly happens when you carry your bike and the handle bars turn in and hit your frame. It will also protect your bike when you lean it against something hard, such as a bench or a car. Since this is printed with flexable materials, it simply stretches around your top tube. There are two versions, knurled and smooth, and each has 4 different but common top tube sizes, depending on your top tube diameter. I've included the settings that I used with my Prusa MK3S+ down below so you can print it just how I did, but you may try your own if you have experience printing with flexable materials. I recommend any flexable material that has a durometer of around 89A. If you've never used flexable materials before, try using Flexable PLA as it is simple to use and prints similarly to regular PLA. Start with a standard .20mm Quality MK3 (or MK4) Profile and modify the settings listed below.Sizes:25.4mm - Smooth or Knurled28.6mm - Smooth or Knurled31.8mm - Smooth or Knurled38.1mm - Smooth or KnurledPrint Settings :Flexable Material (I used Ataraxia Art Flexable PLA+) with 89A hardness15% InfillNo brimSmooth bed sheetPerimeter Speed - 60mm/sInfill Speed - 60mm/sSolid Infill Speed 60mm/sFilament Settings:Nozzle Temp: 200°C (First Layer and Other Layers)Bed Temp: 40°C (First Layer and Other Layers)
