Build a budget Mendel, larger than standard but not too big (40cm x 40cm x 50cm), yet stronger with a 10mm smooth and threaded rod for vertical X installation allowing easy access to extruder and enough room for dual extruder installment. The print size will be 31x28cm, 25-30cm high depending on hotend size. Use 20x20 mm square aluminum tube, 1.5 thick (4 meters for less than €6). Print the parts, with left and right parts due to easier flat side printing; remember that in English "right" is "dt" and "left" is "G." For non-French speakers, use Google Translate. Consider printing smaller parts, especially the z carriage and x motor support, if desired. All parts are strong and suitable for light router usage with a Dremel. Secure tubes to parts using 3.5-4mm Parker screws without screwing them in yet. Assemble per the SketchUp file (to be updated). Round pads on the image are for avoiding wrapping when printing ABS and can be easily removed with a cutter. M4 50mm bolts are required for the block stub. Use 608 bearings with an 8mm bolt axis as pulleys for X and Y, along with 10mm smooth rod (stub) and threaded one for the structure, plus 8mm for the z drive. Choose between 5 or 2.5 mm step belts. Slice parts using Slic3r with a layer height of 0.35-0.5, fill density 40%, 5mm brim, honeycomb filling, and six perimeters. Use Thingiverse parts as needed. Keep updating the SketchUp file for improvements, such as the Y bed design. Use a 10x10 square aluminum tube for the glass bed, which is strong enough to eliminate the need for an aluminum plate, making it lighter. Add pictures of details and the x carriage with integrated extruder (Wade's type with herringbone gear). Update STL files regularly, such as the recent x carriage with Wade extruder addition. In January 2013, add new files for a flange 608 to reduce friction with belt guide and an adjustable bed support for glass beds. A PCB heater with end switch support is also available, nearly completing the design.
