Big & Long Filament Spool Sprocket (Quick Change)
thingiverse
Update: 4/5/18 - Same big long bolt and nut, now with a dull edge at the end, measuring 142mm wide. Don't rely on outdated pictures; check the last two uploaded STL image files instead. Update: 2/5/17 - A new STL file is available for those preferring larger designs, measuring 140mm, compared to the original 100mm. This big spool sprocket design complements my other part: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2067525. Its purpose is to simplify removing a filament spool, making it as easy as changing tires in NASCAR (a feat I wish I could achieve). In reality, this spool sprocket makes removing nuts effortless. It works with standard 608ZZ bearings or without; the choice is yours. Visit http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2009565 for my top-mounted spool holder, which pairs perfectly with this design. Changing filament is a five-step process: 1. Remove nut(s) from one side of the spool threaded rod and insert the Spooler Bolt. Secure the nut(s) back in place. 2. Place your desired spool of filament in position; ensure it can lay on its side along with the rod. 3. Drop the Spooler Nut into place. 4. Spin-tighten the Spooler Nut onto the Spooler Bolt, utilizing minimal threads for ease of spinning, just like a butterfly nut. Hand tighten to secure the spool in place. 5. Mount your Spool Sprocket on your printer's holder and center it. To remove a spool, reverse these steps, skipping step one; you're now qualified as a NASCAR technician, ready to change some tires... or rather, spools! This spool sprocket should accommodate various types of filament spools. If it doesn't meet your needs, please let me know in the comments and I'll try to accommodate your requirements. Note: This design can handle spools with openings up to 105mm wide and 102mm in width. Those dimensions were implemented at someone else's request; my pictures depict the smaller spool sprocket. (Refer to step five for dimensions.) There is an additional bolt that can handle wider spools, measuring 140mm. Print Settings: Printer: Anet A6 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .2 Infill: 15% Notes: Print with supports only on the plate or adjust your overhang angle to 50 degrees to avoid support material inside the bolt.
