Big Filament Spool
thingiverse
To hold your larger PLA spools securely, you'll need four components: a 1/4"-20 x 12" threaded rod, four 1/4"-20 nuts, and two 1/4" washers. Additionally, you will require two 608 bearings, which can be salvaged from old spool coasters. To print the mounting fittings, ensure your 3D printer settings are set to 25% infill, 2 permiters, and a layer height of 0.2mm for optimal results. When assembling the holder, place an inside hub followed by a washer and a nut on one side. Screw this onto the threaded rod about 2 inches in, ensuring the rounded cup part is pointing inwards. Attach a bearing, the sleeve, and a nut. Repeat these steps for the other side. Finally, secure the spool holder by tightening the knobs comfortably and then firmly fastening the bolts holding the bearings. This innovative design offers significantly reduced friction, allowing your spools to spin with ease. Moreover, you can create a set of holders for each spool on hand, enabling quick changes on your desktop stand at an affordable cost of $1.50 per threaded rod.
