Summary This mounting bracket allows you to securely attach a high-intensity rear light to your Surly Big Dummy or any Xtracycle cargo bike. Instructions The Surly Big Dummy lacks a suitable spot for attaching a flashing rear light. Mounting a light on the seatpost is not ideal, as it could interfere with carrying a child or cargo on the rear rack. Similarly, mounting a light on the deck is not practical, as it would obstruct cargo or the rear grab handle. This presents an opportunity to create a new solution. This bracket is specifically designed to hold a Niterider Solas rear light or similar units, but can be easily modified to fit other models. The part features nut traps for 5mm hex nuts for the clamp and a 4mm hex nut for the flashing light. Use a 5mm socket head cap screw for the clamp, tightening it just enough to secure the clamp in place. Over-tightening may crack the part. A Thru-hole is provided in the mount to run a zip-tie through the bracket and around the rack frame for added security. Solidworks files have been included for modification purposes. The main file is the master; changing this will automatically update the clamp and body. Use these files at your own risk.
