Big Dice
thingiverse
I wanted to create a beautiful large dice that stood out from ordinary plastic objects. A 120mm cube was my goal, and I aimed to make it visually appealing rather than just a bulky chunk of material. Printing an entire dice was ruled out due to excessive temporary support, intricate structure, and the wrong grain direction. I opted for printing each of the six sides separately, then assembling them into the final dice after inserting the buttons. The edges of the sides feature long dovetail joints that interlock perfectly, rather than sliding together. Flexible TPU printing filament proved to be a game-changer in this project. The finished blue print had an incredibly pleasant shine and pressed together seamlessly, with excellent tolerance for distortion. This made the completed dice incredibly durable, allowing it to withstand being thrown high in the air or slammed against a wall without breaking apart. Printing each side on my FlashForge Creator Pro took approximately two hours. I used yellow PLA for the buttons, which added a nice pop of color to the design. When assembling the dice, remember that opposite faces always add up to seven!
