Big-Bubble Aquarium Decoration / Air Capacitor (with Sucker-Cup Bottom)
thingiverse
The mission was to design an "air capacitor." Commonly seen as a clam shell "big-bubble" display in pet stores, this 'be larger design is suitable for bigger displays or tanks. It's great for disrupting surface tension and creating funky light displays. Modifications were made to the top print to support an earlier air release. This was done to allow us to adjust the release time and bubble size by adding some weight. Adding weight is essential - we used 1/4 inch steel ball bearings, which work well. Smaller hex nuts would also be effective. We're going to take the lessons learned from this project to design another compact version. Stay tuned for updates. NOTES: Use supports on all parts, and it's fine if they touch the buildplate. Make sure to print the top with 100% infill so that the lid closes properly after pressure release. The bottom can be attached to a container using a sucker cup, allowing you to print it with any infill percentage you prefer. We used 80%. Note the x-reinforcement for the in-pipe fitting - this is becoming a standard practice for our aqua-pipe prints.
