This phenomenon occurs within a society where ongoing and serious violations of freedoms are prevalent, including those related to expression, association, and peaceful assembly. The scenario is reminiscent of George Orwell's dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, in which citizens live under constant watchfulness of the authorities.
