Big Ben is a nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at London's Palace of Westminster's north end. It usually refers to the clock and tower as well. Known as Elizabeth Tower since 2012, it was previously called the Clock Tower. Completed in 1859, this massive structure was the world's biggest, most accurate four-faced striking and chiming clock. The tower celebrated its 150th anniversary on May 31, 2009, with festivities. A symbol of the UK, it often appears in films set in London.
