June 6, 2017: Updated version 1.2: A sleeker and more minimalist design now weighs in at just 6 grams. June 5, 2017: Version 1.1 has been simplified and refined for a smoother overall look. After conducting some research, I found that the design by Lokster is considered the most effective, so I downloaded it and started making improvements based on its basic geometry. The enhancements made to this design include: a. Improved airflow - achieved by increasing the duct's cross-sectional area and enlarging the air holes. b. Enhanced air distribution - ensured by installing internal air guides that distribute air evenly to all holes. c. Optimized air direction - accomplished by adding air nozzles that point downwards, directing airflow away from the hotend. d. Easier printing - made possible without the need for supports. I've been using this design to print PLA with great results ever since. It's ideal for high-speed and/or high-temperature printing, as it provides sufficient airflow to cool the large flow of PLA. To get the best results, please print the duct slowly to achieve smooth internal surfaces. Avoid using rafts or supports at all costs! My own print is done on translucent PLA, which isn't great for showcasing the design but does help with the LED strip I installed above it.
