Biface Fragment XCB-003-331 XCB-003 or IZM-003 is a site thoroughly investigated by A.P. McCartney in 1971. It serves as the primary reference point for the Izembek Phase. The area comprises a small village featuring an unusual whalebone house and numerous artifacts closely resembling those found in the Bristol Bay region. It dates back approximately 1200-1350 CE. The Alaska Peninsula artifacts are presented as a direct result of the research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner is the Principal Investigator behind this research. These artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. The subsequent processing was done in Geomagic or Polyworks. Between 2-8 photos were used to create texture in Geomagic Wrap. Original digitizing work was carried out at the IVL at Id. St. Univ. Further processing and publication were completed at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's research is documented in his paper "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula," published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. Maschner also contributed to the field of Arctic Anthropology with his work, available online at doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007, and published in January 2004 vol. 41 no. 2, pp. 98-111.
