Bicycle water bottle nipple remover tool (fits Bontrager and others)

What is it? This tool helps you thoroughly clean bicycle water bottles by removing the nipple from the bottle lid. It fits Bontrager and several other brands I've seen. Removing the nipple ensures everything gets properly cleaned, so mystery growth doesn't float in your sports drink. How to use it: To use this device, close the nipple on the bottle cap down inside the lid. Place the tool over the nipple from the inside of the lid, aligning its sides with the supports on the lid. It only fits and presses fully if installed correctly. Press the tool into the lid until it hits the top, then pull the nipple as you would open a bottle. The nipple should come out straight. Clean everything properly, and reinstalling is simply a matter of pushing the nipple back into the lid - the tool isn't needed. I find things go better if everything is wet. I wasn't getting it properly clean, but I was living on optimism. Recently, I took the lid off a bottle and saw some stuff floating around in the drink. Having used Camelbaks before, I recognized the remnants of whatever fun stuff grows in the drink tube if you don't clean it properly. So, I realized what I knew all along - my cleaning process just wasn't good enough, and I needed to come up with something to clean the bottles properly. The real challenge is getting everything inside the nipple properly cleaned, but the only way to really do that is to get the nipple out. Problem is, the nipple has two wings which keep it from pulling out easily. I managed to remove one using needle nose pliers, but it was a slow process and didn't seem like a good idea. If only there was a way to hold the wings in (the nipple is soft) and make it easy to remove - thus this thing. But it doesn't fit my wife's favorite Specialized bottles! My wife loves Specialized water bottles. I'm working on adapting the tool for that brand, but it's not working quite as well yet, so I'm still trying to sort out the design.
