Bicycle fork steerer tube adapter for maintenance

I keep a 28.6mm (1 1/8") steerer tube from an old fork on hand when pulling the fork for maintenance. This allows me to push the old steerer into place as I remove the fork, holding the stem and headset parts in position. A small piece of scrap material looks like a top cap but serves to align the fork's steerer tube with the old steerer tube. Hopefully, photos will clarify this, but once printed and attached to an old fork like a top cap, you can use it like so: Remove the top cap on the fork being removed. Remove any brake calipers or other items keeping the fork from dropping out. Place the scrap fork steerer with this item in place on top of the fork to be worked on. Loosen the stem bolts and then push the fork out by pushing the scrap steerer tube down into the stem and through the headset. Remove the fork for maintenance, leaving the scrap steerer in place until ready to reassemble.
