Bicycle Eyelet Stub for Light/Accessory Mount

Bicycle Eyelet Stub for Light/Accessory Mount

Some bike forks/racks feature an M5 threaded eyelet available for various purposes. One popular use is mounting a light or accessory forward of cargo when needed. These simple cylinders are usually sold separately, examples including the Origin8 Eyelet Stub and the Gino light mount. A cheaper, shorter option with edges preventing light falls was desired. A standard 26mm clamp diameter provides 20mm of space to clamp your stuff (40mm for extra long versions). The actual clamping surface is recessed so that raised edges keep the light from being pulled off sides. Overall, the part measures about 34mm in length; the clamping surface starts around 10mm from the attaching surface. M5 bolt and washer are required for attachment, inserted through the large hole end. A 20mm long M5 bolt (.8 pitch) and a 15mm M5 fender washer worked perfectly, allowing approximately 8mm of thread into the eyelet on the basket. Pictures provide detail; about a dollar was paid for this nice item. Assuming attachment to a standard M5 eyelet is required - but if not, this part likely won't work. This product is used on the Portland Design Works Takeout Basket. It turned out perfectly, providing the right offset and matching conical parts to the frame's eyelet; brifters do not come near the light. An "extra long" version is included for more offset or wider accessory clamping, though it has yet to be tried.
