Bicycle Chain Catcher
thingiverse
This is my chain catcher design. The concept revolves around catching the chain if it derails and falls towards the bottom bracket and seat tube, forcing it back onto the chainring in the process. If that fails, the device should prevent the chain from falling into the bottom bracket and causing damage. I've experienced this issue occasionally on both my touring and road bike, particularly when shifting into a smaller front chain ring while in the big chain ring and low rear cog. Although it's rare, it can be frustrating, possibly due to my shifting style or selecting an unfavorable gear ratio. I've been testing this design for several weeks now, but I haven't been able to replicate the problem. It either works flawlessly or I simply haven't encountered the issue yet. This chain catcher is held in place using cable ties; however, I might create a more aesthetically pleasing clamp in the future. Installation is relatively straightforward: position it just above the small chainring without causing any rubbing on the chain. You may need to grind it down slightly for a perfect fit, and if it turns out too small, try scaling up the print.
