Bicycle Cassette & Freewheel Cleaning Tool

This is a bicycle cassette & freewheel (and derailleur pulley) cleaning tool. This tool comes in six blade widths (2.00 mm to 3.25 mm, in 0.25 mm increments), which allows the tools to fit nicely between the cogs of most cassettes and freewheels, if the correct blade width is used. You want the tool to fill the spacing gap reasonably well, but to not have the blade too wide, which would be too tight, or it just wouldn't fit. The cog spacing varies between types, brands and quantity of cogs/speeds on different cassettes and freewheels. Typically, a higher quantity of cogs requires thinner spacing between each cog. SEE THE ATTACHED LIST OF CASSETTES/FREEWHEELS AND THE ASSOCIATED TOOL/BLADE WIDTHS.At 100% infill and with a 5-line brim, the tools require 6 - 9 grams / 1.96 - 3.17 meters of filament, and the print time will generally be between 1:10 and 1:45, depending on the tool printed and your print settings. I usually print at .16mm and at a moderately slower speed. At a greater flow and speed, I would think that the print time could easily drop below one hour for the thinner blade tools. The tools' teeth gaps are wide for collecting debris and to make cleaning the tool fast and easy by wiping it off with a rag.The tool can be used while the bike is on a stand or simply resting upright leaning against something. For the cogs separated by round spacers, you position the tool (insert it between two cogs) with one hand -- it can be positioned arching over the top, or under the back of the cassette/freewheel body. With the tool positioned, pedal backward with the other hand. This rotates the freewheel and cleans between the cogs; and by pedaling backward, there is not a danger of catching your finger or hand in a moving spoke. For larger cogs with star spacers, you can use the tip of the tool as a pick and clean out any debris, without pedaling backward (except to rotate the cassette/freewheel a bit). The tool also has a larger tooth (or heel) that is for scraping debris off of the derailleur pulleys. This takes a bit of re-positioning the tool to reach both sides of both pulleys. The handle is angled to make it easier to position the tool comfortably with one hand, while pedaling with the other. There is also a hanger hole for a nail, screw, pegboard, etc.Note: the blade width, raised indicator also helps to add a bit more stiffness to the handle.Suggestion: if your freewheel has a lot of debris, and you are lubricating the chain, follow these steps:Wipe off excess debris from the chain.Clean the cassette/freewheel cogs -- if very dirty, wipe off tool between each cog.Wipe off the chain again.Clean off the derailleur pulleys, if needed.Lube the chain (as directed from the lube manufacturer).Wipe off excess lube from the chain (unless instructed otherwise by the manufacturer).Do a quick re-clean of the cassette/freewheel.Print SettingsPrinter Brand:CrealityPrinter: Ender 5Rafts:NoSupports: NoResolution:.16mmInfill: 100%Filament: Overture PETG White Notes: Slicing: I rotated the object by 45 degrees to make it sit diagonally. It should fit on most 3D printer beds. If your print bed doesn't heat up evenly, you might need to print with a brim on the outside. This will reduce curl up on the ends of the tool.I printed this tool in white filament so that I can see the dirt, grease and debris and be able to clean it off quickly. Initially, I thought about printing in black to hide the residual grease, but then I realized that white filament would help me see it better.   Category: Hand Tools
