Bicycle bash guard - non standard
thingiverse
This is my custom design for the bash guard on my mountain bike, deviating from standard specifications. Two of its holes have a spacing of just 96mm between their centers while the other two are positioned at 106mm intervals in relation to the first pair (and also maintaining 96mm distance between them). Please measure your bike's frame accurately before downloading this design. Here are my detailed instructions: Firstly, I printed this nylon component on a smooth marble surface that was extensively coated with a generous layer of 1:5 diluted PVA adhesive. It is essential to always print nylon using an adequate brim when doing so. Do not attempt to print nylon using a PEEK extruder as it will degrade around 250 degrees Celsius. For reliable printing, you need an all-metal hotend. While printing with nylon, make sure your fan is completely off. Disengage it if necessary to eliminate any risks. The key lies in applying and thoroughly drying the PVA layer to guarantee it meets these precise requirements. Leave sufficient time for this, ideally overnight, before proceeding with the process. As a prerequisite for printing with nylon on my particular substrate, my hotend needed to be scorching hot – nearly approaching pyrolysis levels (320 degrees Celsius) for optimal bonding between nylon and PVA. During initial layers, it was observed that applying sufficient force did not aid the part in lifting off as easily.
