Bibo2 Dial Indicator Mount
thingiverse
I designed this custom holder to cradle a dial indicator for precise bed leveling on 3D printers. Once the printing heads are removed, it slips snugly into the vacant space left behind. The design is intentionally oversized, allowing for easy installation and secure fitting. Elastic slots in the body enable it to compress, ensuring a tight grip on the indicator shaft. Small beads on the holder's surface facilitate quick and secure snap-in place alignment. You can find affordable dial indicators at most hardware stores or online retailers, often priced under $20 (Harbor Freight is a great option). After securing the holder in place, use your 3D printer's touchscreen interface to home the X, Y, and Z axes. Since the print head is no longer present, you'll need to manually trigger the X limit switch during the homing process. Once complete, utilize the touch screen commands to carefully move the indicator across the entire print surface. You'll be astonished by the unevenness of your print bed – mine had a 0.005" valley along its front edge. However, after just two minutes, my print surface was level to within 0.001", with the exception of that specific area. This custom holder was created using Inventor 2019 CAD software. If you'd like to modify the design for your specific needs, I've uploaded the part file for your reference and use.
