Transporting beverage crates on a bike poses a significant challenge. This design study proposes a simple device that facilitates positioning crates on the rack system of a bicycle. Once in place, the load must be secured using conventional means, such as tie-down straps with a cam-release buckle, for transport. Mounting two crates on either side of the rear rack enhances driving stability. The mount is optimized for bar cross-sections with rectangular shapes and rounded edges, similar to those used by the PLETSCHER ATHLETE rear rack system. However, the basic design can be easily adapted to profiles from other manufacturers. The hooks securely hold a crate containing six 1.0 litre returnable glass bottles (part of the German VdF system). Crates with more bottles may exceed the load capacity of the rear rack, which is limited to 27 kg by EN ISO 11243:2016. Future work will focus on developing a laser-cutted plate for restraining the bottles in the crate. The research for this project was conducted at the Centre for the Design of Additive Manufactured Products (AddLab) of DHBW Cooperative State University Mannheim. The project results are freely shared with other developers, while the included product models remain in a prototype status. The device's strength has not been tested and can vary greatly due to production processes and parameters. Therefore, THE DEVICE MUST NOT BE USED IN ROAD TRAFFIC! The developed device is solely intended for easy positioning of beverage crates on the rear rack of a bicycle. Loads must be secured by approved means during transport in an appropriate manner. The author is not liable for any accidents related to the design.
