Better Oculus Controller Grip

Why does the world need another Qculus controller grip? Let's be honest, Oculus did their best to make the controller fit all hands, including small ones. However, the short rounded bottom makes it feel slightly awkward in larger hands, with a tendency to slip upwards if you're playing aggressively and not careful. I've tried several grips found on Thingiverse for the Oculus Quest controllers, but was disappointed by the lack of control they provided due to the rounded bottom. This is the same issue the actual controllers have. I'm also not a fan of the "Knuckles" strap designs because it forces the hand too far forward over the thumb stick. Another challenge some designs face is the difficulty they add when you need to change the batteries. My version focuses on giving your hands tactile placement feedback by including a base and toe similar to those found on many actual pistols and even some hammers. This gives you a more secure grip as well as a repeatable touch point for your little finger and the base of your palm. Unlike finger ridges, it still allows you to place your hand wherever is most comfortable for the type of game you're playing without "forcing" your hand to a particular position. Security of your controller is managed by retaining the original wrist strap design, which is the most secure method of keeping your controllers from flying free in the excitement of the VR moment. The hole is positioned to allow you to slip the strap and its buckle through without taking anything apart. To secure the grip extension to the controller, I use a strap similar to the knuckles straps, but positioned on the other side of the controller where it's away from your hand and you'll never notice it during use. To secure and release the strap quickly without having to build a spring mechanism, I used a simple and reliable chord locking geometry similar to those found on many camping chord tighteners. This allows you to take the grip off to change the batteries in seconds and just as quickly put it back on securely. To use, loop a chord around the controller ring (as shown in the photo) then pull both loose ends of the chord into the serrated catch at the foot of the grip. Then loop the chord around the curved bar and pull back against the serrations again. Two or three loops like this will guarantee that it won't loosen when used. The extension fits nice and snug so there is no wiggle even in the most aggressive Beat Saber sessions, and adds additional depth to the grip so it's more comfortable and secure for larger hands.
