better DIY pinewood derby wheel
thingiverse
We host our own annual pinewood derby, a unique event in The Netherlands that we had to create from scratch by printing our own wheels. My initial design was flawed because the stem frequently broke off when kids tried to adjust the angle of their wheels by pulling and pushing on it. We've since developed a new design that is significantly stronger, giving us hope that all the wheels will remain intact next year. We rely on our Robo 3D printer for this project. Our settings are as follows: We're using the R1 PLA model, which works well for this type of printing. Rafts aren't necessary in this case, so we've chosen to do without them. Similarly, supports aren't needed, allowing us to achieve a smooth finish. Our resolution is set at 0.2mm, and we're infilling with a density of 50%.
