Betsy Sheave (VCU_3D_487)
sketchfab
Wooden sheave from Betsy shipwreck, 44YO0088, situated within the York River off the coast of Yorktown, Virginia. The remains of Betsy were remarkably preserved, offering a unique chance to gather data on eighteenth-century ship construction and interior design (Broadwater 1992:39). It was part of a fleet of vessels deliberately sunk by the British in 1781. See John Broadwater's work in "Shipwreck in a Swimming Pool: An Assessment of Methodology and Technology Used on the Yorktown Shipwreck Archaeological Project" (Historical Archaeology, Volume 26, Issue 4, pp. 26-46) and "Yorktown Shipwreck" (National Geographic, June 1988, pp. 804-823). This artifact was captured through a 3-D scan using a Go!Scan 50 at the Virginia Department of Historic Resources' archaeological curation facility in Richmond, Virginia. The Virginia Department of Historic Resources granted permission for the model to be downloaded for non-commercial educational purposes.
