Bethsaida
sketchfab
Bethsaida, a ancient city situated on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, embodies two distinct identities - an Iron Age metropolis in the land of Geshur and a Roman city known as Julias. The New Testament references Bethsaida in connection with two pivotal miracles performed by Jesus: healing a blind man and feeding a large crowd for the first time. This site is also revered as the birthplace of several apostles, including Andrew, Peter, and Philip. The area around Bethsaida is nestled within the fertile delta where the upper Jordan River flows into the Sea of Galilee. The site itself is perched atop a hill, situated hundreds of meters east of the Jordan River and 30 meters above the surrounding valley. It lies approximately 1.5 kilometers north of the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee and about 4 kilometers northeast of Capernaum. The ruins cover an area of roughly 20 acres on the hillside.
