This piece is from the 1st century AD and made from millefiori-glass ('thousand flowers') found in southern Holland's Valkenburg. It's a luxurious type of glassware that was not only found in officers' homes but also among trash heaps between barracks, suggesting these elegant bowls may have been on ordinary soldiers' tables as well.
