Best MK2 Spool Holder with 608ZZ Bearings
thingiverse
Probably my 100th remix of MK2 spool holders on Thingiverse, yet I still can't find one that perfectly meets my requirements. Maybe some of you will choose this design over others! My goal was to achieve minimal gap between the spool tube and the conical adapter for the MK2 spool arm while utilizing two 608ZZ bearings for a silky smooth roll. Other designs required new spool arms (I liked my orange ones), more bearings, or were too wide for my taste. What You'll Need: - Two 608zz bearings (any 608/608z/608zz should work) - A working 3-D printer (that's what we're here for) Print Suggestions: - Printing the tube at full height yields a ~120mm tube length - Printing @ 85% Z height yields ~103mm tube, which is what you'll see in the picture (the bearing fit is just fine at either height) *Anything between 85-100% Z height should work, and most spools are under 90mm wide.* -.2 layer height worked great for me, but you can go for more detail if you'd like -I've been experimenting with honeycomb infill lately, and printed these at 25% -The tube is already prepared with a taper for the bottom recess; don't mess with it! Post-Print Suggestions: The bottom openings might require some extra effort to smooth out with an exacto knife. I also recommend sanding the outside of the spool tube as best you can; I cheated and used high-speed power sanding on my drill. The ideal fit would be for the bearings to stay secure on the adapters, and for the adapters to remain securely attached to the spool holder arms so that only the spool tube is free when changing rolls. Mine were a tight press fit for both sides of the adapter, and a "snug" but easily removable fit on the tube!
