This life-sized bronze sculpture is a self-portrait of renowned Danish sculptor Albert Thorvaldsen, born in 1770 and passed away in 1844. Situated on 5th Avenue at 96th Street, this impressive work of art stands tall. The talented artist behind this masterpiece is Albert B Thorvaldsen, who brought to life a portrait statue perched atop a pedestal adorned with medallions. Crafted from high-quality bronze and Danish granite, the sculpture measures 14 feet 11 inches in height, 5 feet 3 inches in width, and 4 feet 2 inches in depth. Dedicated in 1894, this magnificent work of art was made possible by the skilled hands of Lauritz Rasmussen, a master foundry from Kjobenhavn. The generous donation that brought this masterpiece to Central Park came from the Danish residents, who proudly contributed to its creation.
