Nolan Relevant Mission: OSIRIS-REx Born from a catastrophic collision, hurtling through space for millions of years and torn apart by planetary gravity, asteroid Bennu had a rough life in the early solar system's tough neighborhood. Launched toward Bennu in late 2016, the OSIRIS-Rex mission will arrive at the asteroid in 2018 and return a sample of Bennu's surface to Earth in 2023. By studying Bennu's experiences, we'll learn more about our solar system's origins and evolution. Like detectives analyzing evidence from a crime scene, we'll examine fragments of Bennu to reconstruct the story of our solar system, ultimately revealing the tale of our own origin.
