Benham's Illusion Top
thingiverse
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benham%27s_top I adapted MosaicManufacturing's disk pattern into my own design, blending it with an "Inception" style top by Arun_H. Arun's split top design caught my attention, but I struggled to achieve consistent tolerances around the center screw. To address this issue, I shortened the screw by 1mm, tapered its ends, and smoothed out the threads slightly. Edit: A new file titled "Top with Weights Resized" has been added, featuring cavities designed to accommodate M10 hex nuts, which provide additional weight around the perimeter when printed in PLA (210deg). The fit is snug, so I inserted each nut partially by hand before pressing the top against a desktop to secure it in place. The end result spins smoothly and maintains excellent balance.
